IN 1945, M. A. Miner presented his approach for cumulative damage in metal fatigue to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In this approach, the expended life of a specimen is defined to be equal to the summation of the number of cycles that are applied at each different stress level when expressed as a percentage of the number of cycles that would cause failure. The Miner approach is mathematically expressed as shown in equation (1).
| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 2 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 10% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
