Recently a number of important reference works have been contributed by Soviet librarians. Among them rank high the long‐awaited lists of Soviet periodicals. The All‐Union Book Chamber (Vsesoyuznaya Knizhnaya Palata) has been gathering information on Soviet periodicals for the period 1917–45; between 1950 and 1952 this was recorded alphabetically by journal titles only on cards and was available to only a very few Soviet libraries but, beginning with 1955, the All‐Union Book Chamber undertook the publication of printed volumes containing much of this information.
