Introduction Since the Second World War the variety of lubricant systems have grown immensely to keep pace with the rapid expansion of technological systems. There are few technological systems that do not have some moving parts, and these usually require some form of lubrication. The basic function of most lubricant systems usually includes a combination of reducing wear and abstracting heat. The ratio of these requirements obviously depends upon the particular application.
