The quantum mechanical wave functions of molecules are discussed. An attempt is made to effect a simultaneous regional and physical partitioning of the molecular density, the molecular pair density, and the molecular energy, in such a way that meaningful concepts can be associated with the density and energy fragments thus formed. The origin of chemical binding is interpreted in terms of the concepts formulated in the partitioning process. (T.F.H.)

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 790 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Top 1% | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 0.1% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Top 10% |
