The response of a dislocation network subject to a periodic external stress is simulated in the kink representation. Kink-kink and kink-pinning point interactions lead to a local, random reduction in the breakaway stress, so that a certain fraction of the total dislocation line is critically pinned according to a self-organized pattern. Mechanical dissipation caused by critically pinned dislocation segments is suggested to be responsible for the finite values of the decrement function measured experimentally at low frequencies.
| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 14 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 10% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Top 10% |
