A simple diffractive amplitude for high-energy elastic hadron-hadron scattering is given, which includes some typical cases of diffraction. We show the similarities of the model to a realistic geometrical model which explains [ital pp] and [ital [bar p]p] scattering in the energy region [radical][ital s] [le]1.8 TeV well and could provide a reasonable extrapolation to higher energies.
