The on-shell expansion of the effective action is applied to connect the different vacuum solutions by using the on-shell quantities only. By this method, one of the vacuum states is represented essentially by the coherent state constructed upon another vacuum. It can be utilized as the refinement of the variational states or, since the physical quantities are employed, can serve as a method of the gauge-invariant variational approach.
