A new variational method is proposed for the ground state of the periodic Anderson model with infinitely large Coulomb repulsion. A wave function is the Gutzwiller type function which is an extension of the Varma and Yafet's wave function for the single impurity problem to the lattice case. The spin susceptibility of f-electrons calculated by this method is finite in the valence-fluctuation regime so that the ground state is stable against the ferromagnetic ordering.
