Recent experiments on colloidal suspensions of silica spheres in a water-lutidine mixture close to the consolute point have revealed interesting sphere-aggregation behavior that has been linked to wetting phenomena. We carry out a theoretical analysis of the phase behavior in such mixtures and suggest that the observed behavior is consistent with general expectations in three-component fluids.
