The lowest-order covariant equation for the twoparticle scattering amplitude in the Thirring model is deriv-ed and solved. The results are compared with the exact amplitude, whleh can be oomputed by means of Glaser's techniques. The approximate equation contains many spurious solutions which have reasonible asymptotic behavior. Furthermore, some important features of the exact results are not reproduced in any of the ladder-approximation amiplitudes. (luth)
