Summary: The biochemical and cultural characters of Micrococcus violagabriellae Castellani were examined, and the cultural conditions necessary for pigment production investigated; iron and manganese were essential for pigmentation. Some pigment-containing material was isolated and its simple properties were examined. Taxonomically, the organism might warrant sub-specific rank as Staphylococcus epidermidis (or S. saprophyticus) var. violagabriellae.
