Abstract Retroperitoneal abscess is an uncommon infection that is associated with high morbidity. Early diagnosis is imperative; however, due to its insidious onset and subtle presentation, the diagnosis is often missed. We report a case of a retroperitoneal abscess caused by Streptococcus mitis which is usually not implicated as a serious pathogen, at least in immunocompetent patients.
