An endoscopic procedure called laparoscopic cholecystectomy has put a whole new focus on methodology. Several hundred such procedures have been done in the United States and there have been few minor complications reported. The response has been favorable as physicians and the public become more aware of the benefits and fewer risks associated with laparoscopically performed cholecystectomies. They leave minimal scarring and the postoperative restrictions are similar to those for other laparoscopic procedures.
