Discussions about nursing diagnosis have been going on for over 30 years. Nevertheless, the process of developing a universal diagnostic system is still in its infancy. Concepts to standardize the terminology are being tried and debated. From the multiple efforts and input of those engaged in this endeavor, a unified taxonomy of nursing diagnosis should evolve. Toward this end, proposals from different individuals and groups are being considered.
