Television in Operating Room Nursing

Abstract

As more hospitals install television equipment for teaching medical personnel, the technical aspects of producing the telecast program is improving. Nurses have become interested in these televised programs that were primarily produced for medical groups, but, they have not used television as a teaching medium in nursing education. In many instances, they have not even asked for television time, program planners, and script writers to help them present televised programs that are specifically for nursing groups. Only recently the graduate nurses at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center have used closed circuit, color television programs as a part of their education programs for Army, Navy, and Air Force nurses. These programs have presented the preoperative care just prior to surgery, the operation, and the postoperative nursing care of the patient.
