Abstract The diagnosis and management of dental trauma is discussed for the primary and permanent dentition and dento-alveolar bone fractures. This includes management of enamel, enamel-dentine, enamel-dentine-pulp fractures, root fractures. Injuries to the periodontal ligament such as concussion, subluxation, extrusion, lateral luxation, intrusion and avulsion are described. Recommendations are made for splinting types and duration, factors to consider in management of the pulp as a result of trauma. Dental trauma spans across multiple disciplines including primary care, and the urgent nature of the diagnosis and management of dental trauma makes this a useful chapter for Dental Foundation and Core trainees in various environments.
