Abstract

This chapter describes the structure and function of the vocal cords. Congenital and infectious diseases of the larynx are listed. The risk factors, presentation, investigation, staging, and treatment strategies for carcinoma of the larynx are discussed. Differential diagnosis of a hoarse voice, stridor, and its emergency management are outlined. Tracheostomy tubes and their care are highlighted.
