
Abstract Most of the fir ( Abies ) at high altitudes in southern Oregon and northwestern California west of the Klamath River, commonly thought to be Shasta red fir ( A. magnifica var. shastensis Lemm.), is shown to be noble fir ( A. procera Rehd.). The former has a very limited range in this region.
