Abstract Potted 1-0 loblolly pine seedlings sprayed with 5,000 ppm acid equivalents of ethephon in water in early July promptly abscised most of their year-old fascicles. Neither survival nor current-year needles were affected, and lateral branching was reduced. The treatment reduced foliage during the summer-fall period of high potential water use.
