Abstract The internal plant moisture stress (PMS) and stem diameter of nine Douglas-fir trees were measured throughout the day on two clear days in September. The PMS and diameter curves were out of phase by several hours. PMS increased in the morning, remained constant for a while, then decreasedin the afternoon; but diameters decreased until late afternoon and then increased. Forest Sci. 17:466-469.
