Abstract Everyone has heard a story of the computer being wrong or breaking down - indeed many of us have experienced this at first hand. At the time it is infuriating. As professional IT people it is often hard to understand why faults occur - until we remember the enormous complexity of any system and acknowledge the fact that most systems work perfectly satisfactorily for most of the time.
