Female genitalia of Dalceridae have paired lateral glands unlike those of any other Lepidoptera. These secondary “accessory glands” differ from those of other Lepidoptera in having their external openings on the outer side of the papillae anales and in the two members of the gland pair not being connected. Limited field observation suggests that these glands may secrete a rapidly drying fluid onto the eggs as they are laid.
