Summary: Some general properties of a bifurcated oscillator potential in one dimension are analysed. Appropriate wavefunctions in different regions with continuity conditions lead to a simple relation for the energies. The properties of these energies for small and large values of separation are used to develop simple and accurate expressions for the energies of all the states for all values of separation.
