</script>I J Maddox Bristol: Adam Hilger 1977 pp xii + 327 price £7.50 (cased), £5 (paperback) (25% reduction for IOP members) To quote from the dust sheet 'The author has introduced numerical methods to enlighten and enliven the traditional classical theory'. Regrettably having excited the reviewer's interest, because of the difficulty in teaching numerical methods in an attractive fashion, there was little in the book about numerical methods – the numerical example on pi51 and those on ppl92–3 and 214–5 hardly merit any comment, but at least truncation and round-off are explained.
