The presence of erratics in coal has been known for several years, but to the writer's knowledge the present discovery in the Sewell coal of West Virginia (Greenbrier County) represents the largest, as well as the greatest number and variety yet reported. The present paper gives references to previous discoveries, as well as an account of the size, shape, and position in the coal seam, character of boulders, their probable source, and possible agents of transportation of the boulders at this locality.
