Signal-to-noise ratios are derived for an interferometric array of N diffraction-limited optical/IR telescopes with a Fizeau-type beam recombination. We consider two types of objects—extended sources and point sources—and three sources of noise—signal photon noise, sky background noise, and detector noise. We compare the results with that of a filled aperture, and also to that of an incoherent array, each with the same total collecting area. Implications are briefly discussed.
| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 6 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 10% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
