Sensitive measurements of the near-infrared coronal spectrum were obtained from the 1994 total solar eclipse. A new [S IX] emission line at 1.25249 ± 0.00003 μm has been detected, and a bright, potentially important diagnostic, [Si X] line at 1.43 μm has been confirmed. Upper limits on the intensity of several other predicted IR emission lines have been established. Also, diffuse He I emission, perhaps geocoronal, has been observed with a significant heliocentric redshift.
