Ultraviolet and infrared spectra were obtained in order to study grains in cool star and hot star syncretic type binaries. Grains are found in only about half of the syncretic systems. The results suggest that grains have not formed in many syncretic systems because of ultraviolet radiation from the hot star. Circumstellar extinction could not be unambiguously detected in those systems with grains.
