The polarizations of eight radio-quiet quasars have been measured at 2.2 microns. Of these, three are marginally detected with polarizations of 1.5-2 percent, while the rest have upper limits of 1-1.5 percent. This indicates that if a significant fraction of the infrared emission in these objects is due to synchrotron radiation, then either the magnetic field structure in these objects is highly disordered, or significant Faraday depolarization occurs near the source. Dilution of the synchrotron flux by unpolarized thermal emission may be present but is probably of secondary importance. 28 references.
