Four questions are asked related to galaxies and their environments in the context of speculation as to which direction the field may go over the next decade. These are: What is a galaxy? Where does a galaxy end? Are galaxies open or closed? and How important are interactions? In the process, these questions touch upon some of the challenging problems facing us today in extragalactic astronomy, such as galaxy formation and evolution, the importance of environemntal effects, and the nature and extent of dark matter.
| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 18 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 10% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
