Observations of line and continuum strengths were made in six regions in the Orion nebula. From the observations, electron temperatures, electron densities, and chemical abundances are derived. A model for the Orion nebula is computed that agrees with the optical and radio observations of the nebula. Scattering and absorption by dust were added to the model and the predicted scattered continuum is compared to the observed continuum. Key words: H ii regions - Orion nebula - interstellar dust
