AbstractPeroxisomes are one of the main sites in the cell where oxygen free radicals are both generated and scavenged. The balance between these two processes is believed to be of great importance for proper functioning of cells and has been implicated in aging and carcinogenesis. We will give an overview of the peroxisomal processes involved in the oxygen radical homeostasis and its implications for the cell.
