This paper discusses the effects and importance of grazing on range condition on the basis of equilibrium and non-equilibrium models. The importance of grazing systems, (the spatial and temporal distribution of grazing pressure), is also examined. It is concluded that grazing will continue to be an important process in all rangelands, and that managing grazing will continue to preoccupy land managers and others involved in the sustainable and productive use of rangelands
