A critical enumeration is given of the Amaranthaceae known from the Papuasian region. Keys to the relevant 10 genera and 22 species are provided. Misapplied names and synonyms relevant for the region are mentioned. Notes are made on the distribution and ecology of the species. Alternanthera manillensis (Walp.) Kanis comb. nov., Alternanthera pungens Kunth, Amaranthus lividus L., and Iresine herbstii Hook. f. are newly recorded. It is shown that Pupalia Juss. has been listed incorrectly for the region.
