A number of hydroxyamidines and amidoximes have been prepared in order to examine if their chelating system can lead to cytotoxic compounds. Most compounds are toxic but all are inactive against experimental tumours. The i.r., u.v. and N.M.R. spectra of the hydroxyamidines are discussed.
