A study of the cobalt(11) gluconate system has confirmed the existence of an unstable cationic species [Co(C6H1107)]+, in solutions of pH <7.5, and two insoluble compounds, CO2(OH)3(C6H11O7),xH2O and CO3(C6H10O7)2(OH)2,2H2O, formed in solutions of pH 7.5-9.5. Above pH 9.5 an anionic species, which is subject to rapid auto-oxidation, exists in solution.
