The nonlinear interaction of an electron-ion plasma with an electromagnetic ion-cyclotron Alfvén wave propagating along an external magnetic field is considered. It is found that the radiation pressure of the electromagnetic wave can excite field-aligned electrostatic density perturbations. Localized wave packets are shown to exist. The relevance of our investigation to laboratory and astrophysical plasmas is discussed.
| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 64 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Top 10% | |
