The toroidal and poloidal velocity components of an axisymmetric toroidal plasma are calculated using the classical formulae of stress tensors in the magnetohydrodynamic equations. Explicit formulae are obtained and a criterion regarding whether the toroidal velocity component is exponentially increasing or decaying is established. The special case of a large aspect-ratio plasma is also examined.
