An effective Hamiltonian for the ABC effect

Abstract

The reaction np→d(ππ)° is studied in a Hamiltonian formalism, in the momentum region from threshold to 3 GeV/c. We are able to reproduce the enhancement in the deuteron recoil-momentum spectrum at ππ missing-mass values near 300 MeV (the ABC effect).
