Impulse excitation of eddy-current transducers has a number of considerable benefits in comparison with traditional harmonical excitation for the reaction impulse contains a wide range of harmonics, i.e. much more information. Impulse excitation has some special features: the reaction impulse maximum value depends only on geometrical parameters of the system and the reaction impulse average is determined only by electromagnetic parameters of object under testing. This makes it possible to conduct 1 or 2 parameter testing. Furthermore, reaction impulse always comes when an excitement impulse is already over and this makes the system less vulnerable to interference. The software we developed calculates and analyzes parameters of impulse signals for all kinds of transducers. Simulation results revealed a possibility of 3-parameter testing by amplitude of the reaction impulse, reaction impulse average and reaction impulse duration. The software has been transformed into a training program for students specializing in nondestructive testing. All emulation and training programs can be placed at a disposal of interested institutions and individuals on commercial basis.
