
The 148-ft (45-m) high, steel faced Aguada Blanca rockfill dam is described. After a few general data on the hydraulic scheme, dam and appurtenant structures, local climate, and geology are summarized. The reasons for the major technical decisions and related design of rockfill dam body and 3/16-in. (5 mm) thick iron facing are presented. Construction methods and materials are reported concluding with a rapid description of grouting and drainage curtains. Some construction costs are also given with a preliminary evaluation of dam and facing performance.
