The authors report their experience with regard to operative fibrecolonoscopy both in routine and emergency cases. After taking into consideration the use of this technique for the study and treatment of rectal and colonic polyps, they also recommend the use in emergency conditions of colonic haemorrhage and in the removal of foreign bodies. They conlcude that therapeutic colonoscopy must be recognised as one of the most useful methods of diagnosis and treatment of some lesions of the rectum and colon.
