Abstract The stellate ganglion consists of sympathetic fibers that predominate the upper extremity face and intracranial vault. It lies anterior to the C7 tubercle and T1 transverse process. The stellate ganglion can be blocked by a variety of approaches, most commonly an approach at C6 Chassaignac's tubercle is used. Block of the stellate ganglion can be for both diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes. Patients who derive relief after stellate ganglion block are felt to have sympathetically mediated pain processes. Located anesthetics are most commonly used in the performance of a stellate ganglion block. This report details the indications, techniques, different approaches, side effects and complications of a stellate ganglion block. Copyright © 2001 by W.B. Saunders Company
