The technology ingredients for grid computing have still to stabilize, but commercial adoption looks a lot closer to reality. Much of the functionality required to support a grid environment resides with the middleware. The grid certainly appears to hold forth the promise of significant cost savings for research and commercial organizations alike, as well as access to high performance computing capabilities.
