The key is that quality is about prevention. If one lived in a perfect world where everything was done right first time, where all communications were performed without ambiguity, where people worked in harmony, one would not need to think about quality at all! The purpose of implementing a quality management system is to improve the efficiency and the effectiveness of the business. The opportunities for cost savings are clearly large and any company which intends to stay in business cannot afford to ignore this. But implementing a QMS also brings great benefits to the people who work in the organisation. It allows them to use their own talents in the best way instead of having to put their energies into unproductive activities to fix unnecessary problems. It thus enables individuals to have more satisfying jobs.
