DURING research on the contact of solid surfaces we have been examining the deformation under load of single asperities. These are formed by turning cones of base diameter about 0.2 mm on metal surfaces and are pressed against a hard anvil under known loads. The resulting flats are examined by relocation profilometry1 and by optical microscopy. The procedure is equivalent to a Mallock hardness test2; Mallock's original tests, in fact, were made on cones of a similar size.
| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 8 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 10% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
