To demonstrate a quick way of calculating the optical difference between two refractions using vector analysis, and to express this as a score for examination purposes. An existing formula is applied, converted to a defocus equivalent, and then converted to a score. The formula is set out in an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet enabled rapid assessment of the difference between two refractive errors. Examples are demonstrated. The spreadsheet was successful in enabling a comparison of any two refractions, expressing the difference either as a correcting (third) refraction, a defocus equivalent or a one-figure score.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 1 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Average | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
