IT has been shown in this laboratory that the administration of fluoroacetate to 3-month-old female rats of the Scott–Russ strain inhibits the absorption of cyanocobalamin1. This was done by tube-feeding each animal with 15 ng 58Co-labelled cyanocobalamin 2 h after it had received an intraperitoneal injection (80 µg/100 g body-wt.) of sodium fluoroacetate. Each animal was killed 24 h after feeding, and after removal of the stomach and intestines the radioactivity of the carcass was determined by dissolving it as completely as possible in strong nitric acid and counting in a scintillation counter.
