IN the course of an investigation of the ultra-violet irradiation of solid films of uracil and thymine1, certain inconsistencies were observed in the irradiation of thymine films which were unexplainable at the time and therefore not reported. Information now available has led to an investigation of the influence of humidity, more properly the vapour pressure of water, on this photochemical reaction, and evidence is presented here that humidity is a factor in this reaction.
