A COMPOUND between sucrose and sodium chloride has been described by a number of investigators, the most complete account being that of Gill1, who ascribed to it the formula C12H22O11.NaCl.2H2O. Gill also obtained addition compounds with sodium bromide and sodium iodide, to which he ascribed the formulae 2C12H22O11.2NaBr.3H2O and 2C12H22O11.3NaI.3H2O. In the course of an investigation of sucrose by the methods of X-ray crystallography, it became of interest to investigate these compounds more fully.
